I’ve started experiencing smelly vaginal discharge despite using feminine wash daily – what else can I do to prevent it? – Val, 25 PDF Print E-mail

Vaginal odour and discharge is normal, but if you find that the smell gets abit annoying,  here’s how you deal with it:

Avoid tight underwear:
Tight underwear and pants prevents the vagina from ‘breathing’. Try to stick to skirts and cotton panties to allow the air to circulate, so as not to irritate the vagina which could cause it to produce more odors. Try lining your underwear with panty liners and change them regularly to ensure that bacteria in the vaginal discharge do not multiply.

Stick to a healthy diet:
Although rare, an unhealthy diet could also cause smelly vaginal discharge. Make sure you eat healthy and consume enough fruits and vegetables. You should also drink plenty of water to flush out toxins.

Consider other factors:
Monitor your lifestyle and see if there have been any changes you made recently that could have triggered the smelly vaginal discharge- unprotected or excessive sex, drinking and smoking could potentially increase your risks of vaginal odor.

Other good habits to implement:
Always use condoms during sexual intercourse and always wipe from front to back after urination or having a bowel movement. Improper wiping can easily spread bacteria and may lead to vaginal discharge and infection.
