I’ve gotten a mild eye infection and suffered from conjunctivitis in recent months. I use contact lenses, but I’ve already reduced the number of hours I keep them in. What else can I do? – Rita, 22 PDF Print E-mail

We hope you’ve already seen a doctor for this and he’s prescribed you with the right eyedrops and advised you to take a break from using lenses. As a contact lens wearer, the most effective way to prevent infection is good hygiene. Rinse your lenses every day after use and throw them out once their designated usage period (e.g monthly’s / dailies) is over. Using a pair of contact lenses after it has expired increases the chances of infection.

Another possible cause to your eye problems might be your nails, especially if they’re kept long. Long nails trap more dirt underneath them, and you run a much higher risk of scratching or tearing your lenses. Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your lenses. On top of this, don’t neglect to wash your lenses case and replace the solution after every usage.

If you’ve sensitive eyes, switch to dailies. Try Acuvue’s dailies with extra moisture to keep your peepers fresh and free from infections. Get them at $56 for a box of 30, from Capitol Optical.
