I’m only 27, and I don’t have arthritis, but why am I aching all the time? - Xieling, 27 PDF Print E-mail

Body aches can be caused by many reasons, but the following are the most common:

1. Prolonged sitting

Working a desk-bound job can result in long hours behind the desk. Often, our office chairs aren’t ergonomically-friendly, resulting in us sitting in awkward postures for long hours. Short of buying a new chair for work, get cushions or back rests to ease the strains of sitting. In addition, get up and stretch your back every hour or so.

2. Muscle strain

Whether it’s a lack of warm-up stretches before exercising, or the over-usage of a muscle, or even an old injury acting up, muscle strain can result in body aches. Get some rest and avoid putting pressure on the injured part.

3. Illnesses

Body aches often accompany many illnesses, such as fever and flu, and are signs from the body telling you to take a step back, stop and rest.

Alternatively, you could be overworked or stressed out. You should try to get a good 8 hours’ worth of sleep every night so that your body can recharge.

Of course, there are many other reasons that you might be suffering from body aches. If you’re still sore after a few days, you should see a doctor to find out the cause, as it might be something serious.
