How do I get more support from my guy without sounding needy? PDF Print E-mail

It’s always difficult to strike a balance between sharing problems with your guy to get more support from him and being seen as this needy girlfriend who is always dependent on her other half. Here’s a handy tip to help you manage:

- Don’t expect him to know when you don’t say a thing and once you’ve said your fair share, don’t repeat.

Most of us would come across this insurance agent ‘friend’ who would call you out of the blue to tell you that he/she has gone into insurance, and if you would need any insurance plans, be sure to call him/her. That is totally fine, until he/she starts calling you every few days to ‘update’ you on the new plans or asking you out for dinner to ‘share’ more with you. You would probably find this ‘friend’ irritating and in the long run, you just wouldn’t want to be ‘friends’ with him/her anymore.

This is the same concept as being in a relationship.

Of course, you can let your guy know about your problems, but saying once is more than sufficient. Do not go on and on about your stories, whine, cry or expect him to solve all your problems – you’d just be seen as this needy girlfriend who’s not independent enough to solve things on your own. Instead, talk to him, ask for his opinions on the matter and just settle those problems by yourself. This way, you’ll be able to gain his respect and thus get more support from him.
