You’re bound to have to deal with a certain level of stress when you first begin your job – here’s what you can do to make your situation a little more bearable.

Workplace Culture
Study the company hierarchy - find out how rigidly your co-workers adhere to the chain of command and find out where you fit in. Observe your team mates and learn whether your department encourages teamwork or independent work.

Working With New People And Rules
During the first few months, try to make yourself part of the office grapevine. Don't be shy about asking questions even if it makes you uncomfortable. When a new employee doesn't ask questions, it signals that you're either too shy or not paying enough attention to realise what questions you should have.

Dealing With Fear Of Losing Your Job
When you start a job, your most immediate concern may be hanging on to it. Uncertainty about your performance may leave you feeling uneasy, so feel free to ask as many questions as you like. The more you know about the future prospects of your new job, the better you will be able to deal with stress and any unexpected situations that may arise.

Dealing with Stress
No matter how you prepare, you will most likely face difficult tasks that you think you can’t handle. When faced with stressful situations, learn how not to brood over it and to move on once you’ve overcome each difficulty. Getting upset over the situation will make it hard for you to focus on your work. You’ll also need to make sure that nothing unnecessary gets in your way. Things like a cluttered desk or a lack of a to-do list can easily unhinge you and make you feel like you’re losing control.
