I just bought an expensive foundation that is one shade lighter than my own skin tone – is there any way I can salvage it? - Jasmine, 24 PDF Print E-mail

Wait for the right time
More often than not, your skin will lighten and darken depending on how often you spend indoors. For example, you may spend more time indoors during a busy work or study period in your life and this will cause your skin to lighten over time, thus allowing you to use the foundation.  Meanwhile, you could apply the foundation with a wet sponge to help it blend better.

Mix it up:
You can customize the foundation to suit your skin by mixing it with a bronzer or a darker shade of foundation till you find your match. Use it as a highlighter:
You can use your foundation to highlight certain areas on your face to give it a more contoured look- Apply to the middle of your nose to make it look longer and sharper, on upper cheeks to look more refreshed, on top of the Cupid’s bow to add definition and on the inner corners of your eyes and below your eyebrows. This will make your features look more defined.

Top it off with powder:
Apply a darker powder on top of your foundation to conceal the fact that it a tad bit too light. However, avoid piling on powder as it may appear cakey. Another alternative is to dab on a bit of bronzer, paying special attention to your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin.
