I’m keen on losing weight but I hate exercising! Is it possible to revamp my diet and shed pounds without stepping into the gym? – Jac, 28 PDF Print E-mail

As the saying goes, you are what you eat. It’s possible to lose weight by changing your diet, but for best results, you’ll need to do at least some exercise.

Keeping a food diary is one of the most effective methods to assist your weight-loss mission. Write down everything you’ve eaten everyday. This automatically forces you to watch what you eat. Replace your regular carbs intake with either more complex carbs or fibre such as fruits and vegetables. Examples of regular carbs are white rice, noodles, pasta and white bread while examples of complex carbs would be brown rice, wholemeal bread and wholewheat or multi-grain pasta. Switch all sodas or sweet drinks to water and you’ll be surprised what a difference that makes to your waistline.

You don’t actually need to step into the gym to exercise. Exercising regularly can take many forms: walking up the stairs of the overhead bridge to cross the road or even walking from the bus stop to work in your 4-inch stilettos. Make the most out of this “non-workout” exercise regime by taking the stairs instead of the lift whenever you can, or walking the longer route home in the evenings.

Drink lots of water, eat more veggies, change all the whites to wholemeal. You can try eating clean for a week and see if its progressing well! :)

Do a sport that you enjoy so it doesn't feel much like exercising! I like playing badminton with my mates or swimming with my fiance so it doesn't feel like much of a chore and I tone up and spend quality time with them

Act on your diet. It is the fastest way. I eat alot but am still slim most probably cos of my dietary preferences. I love lean meat, vegetables, fruits and plain water. Take fats, titbits and carbonated drinks only once in a blue moon.

i wouldn't recommend climbing the stairs. You might bulk up fast (as i do when i have to climb). I suggest taking walks every night (after dinner if you're feeling full) in a park or by the roadside. Just plug into your ipod and start walking. try to keep to level paths and you can start by walking for about half an hour, then gradually increase the distance.

Keep your food simple: less oily, less salty

Try to use transport 11 (leg) instead of car/escalator/lift

Drink more water

Do some stretching on the bed

Perhap you can try some interesting activities such as dancing, cycling or any sports that you like. you can try to drink some flora tea if you are not allegic pollens etc, you can go to shops that specialise in tea for recommendation.. it will help but it will take time...
