I love my long hair but I’m sick of having to pull my hair in a ponytail – what other ways can I wear my hair up? – Joyce, 23 PDF Print E-mail

Whether they’re worn messy or polished, ponytails make for great, versatile hairstyles. The half up half down style is actually a great way to soften your features and make your cheekbones look higher. But if you’re bored of that, you try these super easy alternatives:

1.      Messy pigtails: Give this childhood favourite a sexy boost. Tease the crown before pulling your hair back into low pigtails, then secure each at about the same level as your jaw to give the style a loose effect. Pair this with a side parting to finish the look.

2.      Off-center bun: For a casual alternative to the classic bun, create a bun just to the left or right of the nape of the neck and pull out a few wisps of hair for a care free feel.

3.      Polish the ends of a half-up half-down: A few minutes after using a flat iron or curling iron, work in a little anti-frizz serum to add shine.

4.      Pair a simple headband with your updo: Adding a fabric headband to a bun or a ponytail gives a ponytail or bun a dressy look.

5.   Twist your hair: Apply super shiny gel throughout your hair for a wet finish. Then put three bobby pins along the side of your head starting from the ear. Starting at the temple, twist the hair along the line of the pins, adding more hair as you go - do the same for the other side until the twists meet. Secure the hair into a ponytail with an elastic, before rolling on the leftover pins up and under, tucking in and hiding the bobby pins. Once done, remove the pins and smooth hair with your fingers.
